The Right Fit for You – Choosing a DNA Testing Company

AbsoluteDNA is a pioneering company dedicated to revolutionizing the field of genetic testing and personalised healthcare. Our commitment lies in harnessing the power of DNA to empower individuals with valuable insights into their genetic makeup, ultimately enabling them to make informed decisions about their health and wellness.

Accreditation

Our laboratories are internationally accredited, meaning they have been verified as technically competent, and able to provide reliable and accurate test results. Our testing equipment has also been through rigorous checks to ensure they meet required standard. Additionally, our staff have been assessed against their ability to handle samples and record results, as well as their ability to identify and solve problems that may occur.

Accuracy

The results you receive from us are highly accurate, because we have taken the time to ensure that the testing procedures are as stringent as possible. We go further than ‘conclusive results’, and will only consider a paternity test, for example, to be conclusive if there is a 100% exclusion of the potential father.

Affordability

We provide affordable testing services, while still maintaining the highest quality. We do this because we have a large processing capacity, and a large, skilled team of scientists.

What is DNA testing?

You’ve no doubt been told that you are unique many times throughout your life, but did you know that it’s genetically true? There is a very small probability (1 in 6 billion) that any two people on earth share the same genetic code, and the only way of determining the individual genetic code of a person, is through analysis of their DNA. Identical twins will share the same genetic code.

DNA testing has come a long way since its inception in the late 1970’s, and today, people order and undertake DNA testing for a variety of reasons.

Some of the most common DNA tests include paternity and relationship tests. Browse our full range of DNA tests to see what else we can offer.

What are the most common DNA tests?

Paternity Tests – Paternity tests are the most ordered of all DNA tests and are used in a variety of cases where the biological father need to be proven. Modern DNA tests can confirm a man is the paternal father with more than 99.99% accuracy and can exclude a man from paternity with 100% accuracy. The test compares the DNA of the child, with that of the potential father.

Relationship Tests – Another popular test, relationship tests provide information on the level of biological kinship that two people share. They are often used when a parent is not available to be tested, so a potential grandparent, or uncle/aunt is tested against the other person. Results will either confirm or exclude a familial relationship between two people.

Forensic Tests – Sometimes, a client will request a forensic DNA test be carried out, often to try and prove infidelity. Our laboratory technicians can analyse DNA from a variety of sources that you send in, including clothing with bodily fluids on it, hair samples (but only with roots attached), toothbrushes, ear swabs and nail clippings.

Why order a paternity test?

Paternity testing is big business in Australia, with around 3000 tests being carried out each year. It is utilised by men who require conclusive scientific evidence that the child or children they are raising, or paying child support for, are biologically theirs.

A paternity test can be done discreetly from your own home, when you order a home paternity DNA test. You will receive a home test kit, which contains everything you need to undertake a paternity test, including mouth swabs, FTA cards, consent forms, full instructions and return postal envelopes.

Results will arrive in a timely manner and will be discreet.

How to choose a DNA company?

The most important thing that you need to consider when searching for a DNA testing company is accreditation. Always choose a company that has a minimum accreditation standard of ISO 17025. NATA is another important accreditation requirement for Australia. These codes are the international standard for testing laboratories and means that the lab meets a strict set of requirements, operates a quality management system, and that the staff are technically trained to perform their jobs.

Once you’ve chosen a company that you feel will provide you with the best service, it’s time to browse the range of tests that are available and choose the tests that you need. If you have any questions about a particular test, or would like help choosing the right test for your needs, then it is advised that you contact the company to get clarification.

How to do the test?

Depending on the paternity test you order, there are several different ways that the tests can be carried out. Some DNA tests require a home test kit, which is delivered to the address of your choice. The home test kit contains everything you need to do a DNA test in the comfort of your own home, including oral swabs, instructions, and details about how to collect, store and send your sample back to the lab for testing. The turnaround time for getting your results vary between companies, but most arrive in a timely manner.

Other DNA tests require a medical blood draw, like when you give a blood sample at a pathology lab.

Remember to choose a DNA testing company with an accredited laboratory, and to ask as many questions as you need, to get the right test for your needs.
